Hong Kong Faces and Places Graduation Exhibition

Grow Thy Communities

5/4/2024-14/4/2024

12:00-19:00

Urban Sky, 9/F Hysan Place, 500 Hennessy Road, Causeway Bay

Sunlight, air, soil, and water are the necessary conditions for flowers and plants to grow. For community stories, however, there is no standard formula.

Urban Diary documents people’s stories as a means to explore the sustainable future of the city. We want to share the tools it takes to document the community.

With this in mind, Hong Kong Faces and Places was launched in May 2020. The project has run for nine semesters and nurtured nearly a hundred community storytellers. We have conducted workshops about narrative practice, non-fiction storytelling, ecocriticism, urban ecology, and community exploration. There have also been advanced workshops on the principle of land economics and urban design.

This exhibition showcases works from semester VII to IX. It is where participants get hands-on experience with maps, field surveys, and interviews.

Just as the condition of plants fluctuates, community stories are diverse and ever-changing. Some works look into family history, while others consist of games and archives. Ultimately, our participants’ work flourishes like a garden. We cordially invite you to visit this garden and explore the sincere community stories that each person has planted.
