“In those days, my friends and I always hung out in Golden Theatre, Golden Computer Plaza and Apliu Street after school. These places hold a lot of my childhood memories. When I was small, Tung Chau Street was the waterfront. Later when I was a teenager, it was pushed back inland and a vast piece of rough reclaimed land appeared where the harbour once was. This new site became my new playground where I would go to race my radio-controlled car.
Sham Shui Po is now separated from the waters but the view offered by Lion Rock remains the same. I could see Lion Rock from the window of my childhood home. Later I moved out of Sham Shui Po because rent was expensive in the urban areas, but I moved back again several years later. From the window of my new home, I saw the same Lion Rock. The view was exactly the same as the one I saw every day when I was a kid, as if I’d never left Sham Shui Po.”
